The Donegal Centre's mission is for the youth to restore harm done to themselves, others and the community, to develop emotional stability, an independent thought process, social competency and good decision-making skills and to become goal oriented, while ensuring a safe and secure environment for clients and staff.
Licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Department of Public Welfare, the Donegal Centre offers a variety of programs and opportunities.
Independent Living Program:
Our Independent Living Program offers immediate assistance for females ages 16-21 who are in need of independent living skills. Youth will receive educational assistance, financial planning, housing assistance, life skills training, career planning, as well as self-care, social relationships, work, communication and study skills.
Residential Program:
Our Residential Unit will serve adjudicated and delinquent females ages 14-21. The Residential Unit will provide a safe, staff secure atmosphere for our youth to obtain the necessary services including completing the requirements of their probation, such as restitution and community service.
Family Programming:
All youth and their families will be offered on-site family programming one time per month. The Donegal Centre highly encourages parents and guardians to be active in the recovery process. We have designated overnight rooms to assist families in need in order to accommodate participation.
Education:
The Donegal Education Centre is licensed as an approved private academic school. We offer special education services on-site. The school provides core classes in Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, along with electives in Computers/Keyboarding, and Art. All youth that attend The Donegal Education Centre will be assessed by a Licensed Psychologist. The Donegal Education Centre will also offer credit recovery courses on-site, along with G.E.D. preparation. We also work on a case by case basis with the local school district so that our youth may attend public school.
Vocation:
The Donegal Centre will collaborate with Westmoreland County Community College in offering a Certified Nurse Aide Certificate Program to all residents at the Donegal Centre. Residents must be 16 or older to enter the program. They will be instructed using classroom, lab, and clinical hands-on experience. Upon successful completion of the program, the residents will be tested to be placed on the Nurse Aide Registry of Pennsylvania.
The Donegal Centre will offer either a Medical Billing and Coding or Medical Office Administration on-line certificate program through Westmoreland County Community College. This program will be offered to all residents.
The Culinary Arts Program consists of 120 hours of hands on experience along with classroom instruction. Once a youth successfully completes the culinary program, they will be provided the opportunity to take the Serve Safe test.
